Motorsports Legend Roger Penske To Receive Presidential Medal Of Freedom
The White House announced yesterday that it would award race team owner and automotive entrepreneur Roger Penske with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest honor that can be bestowed on a civilian.
The founder and chairman of Team Penske and Penske Corporation, Penske, 82, started out as a driver and then transitioned to team owner. Penske Corp. now manages automotive and transportation businesses with consolidated revenues of more than $31 billion, operating in over 3,660 locations and employing more than 64,000 people worldwide.
Penske is also a legend in motorsports, where he created one of the most successful teams in IndyCar and NASCAR racing. He is the most successful team owner in Indianapolis 500 history, with 18 victories. On top of this latest accolade, Penske has been honored with induction into the NASCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway Halls of Fame, as well as the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
In a statement, Penske said, “It is truly an honor to be recognized by President Trump and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
