Acura ZDX Type S will be first all-electric pace car to enter Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

The 2024 Acura ZDX Type S is set to make history as the first all-electric pace car at the 102nd running of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, in Colorado Springs, June 23.

Pro BMX athlete, car tuner and amateur drifter Coco Zurita will drive the ZDX Type S up the 12.42-mile course.

Zurita first collaborated with Acura to build a custom 2023 Acura Integra for the 2022 SEMA Show and a 2024 Acura TLX Type S for the 2024 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The ZDX Type S, Acura‘s first all-electric model, has nearly 500hp and 544 lb-ft of torque, designed to maintain performance at all altitudes. The car features dual-motor all-wheel drive, a low center of gravity with near 50/50 weight distribution, height adjustable air suspension, performance-tuned adaptive dampers and 15.6in Brembo front brakes with six-piston calipers.

Sponsored by Gran Turismo, Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, also known as the Race to the Clouds, is one of the USA’s longest-running motorsports competitions. Since 1916, drivers have tackled the 156-turn course, which starts at 9,380ft and climbs to a 14,115ft summit.

2024 marks Acura’s 10th  year as the official Pikes Peak International Hill Climb pace car. Previous entries include the second-generation NSX in 2015 and the prototype TLX Type S in 2020.

In addition to the pace car, Acura and Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US) will field two Integras in this year’s race. Katherine Legge will drive the HRC-developed Acura Integra Type S DE5 in the Time Attack 1 division, and Paul Hubers will pilot the Honda of America Racing Team’s (HART) Acura Integra A-Spec in the Pikes Peak Open division.
