Brainerd International Raceway, home of the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, recently completed a major reinvestment project at the legendary facility, repaving the asphalt surface of the track.
Ten years to the day of the last track-surface renovation and using the same company that helped provide one of the fastest dragstrips in the world, BIR is set to start the 2026 season with brand-new asphalt.
The work comes off an epic 2025 season, which included Brittany Force’s track record of 340.82 mph in August, and sets the stage for even more record-shattering runs in 2026.
“These cars aren’t slowing down, and neither are we,” said Kristi Copham, owner of Brainerd International Raceway. “We’ve always taken pride in giving our racers the best surface possible, and 10 years after our last repave, it was time. This is about staying ahead of the curve and making sure the track lives up to what these machines and their teams deserve.”
Over the coming months, the team at BIR will work to get the new asphalt prepped and ready to start the season strong on opening day in April. The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series returns to Brainerd on Aug. 20-23, 2026 with the NHRA Nationals as part of NHRA’s 75th Anniversary season.
