Chuck Jones named chairman of IMS Museum board of directors
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum announced today that Chuck Jones is the new chairman of the Museum’s board of directors.
Jones, an honors graduate of Purdue University, is an internationally recognized design and product development leader and is currently the Chief Design Officer at GE HealthCare, where he’s responsible for the global design of all GE Healthcare’s physical and digital products. He is a recipient of the White House sponsored Smithsonian National Design Award, has been granted 43 patents to date and has in excess of 1,000 international product design awards
Jones, who is also a noted vintage Indy car restoration expert and racer, has served on the IMS Museum board since 2019 and succeeds Rob Dyson as the board chair. Dyson served as chairman for the last four years, ushering in the new era of the Museum with The Stories Behind the Spectacle Capital Campaign.
“The entire board and I are grateful to Rob for his outstanding leadership and perseverance as we’ve worked to reimagine the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum,” Jones said. “His focus and action mindset have built a solid foundation that will benefit the Museum for years to come.”
Like many race fans, Jones, who was born in Covington, Indiana, has a deep connection to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its rich history.
“I have attended the Indianapolis 500 for more than four decades. My earliest memories are of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, attending qualifications and the race with my father and witnessing the evolution of the track and the cars from the ’60s to today,” Jones said.
“It’s an honor and privilege to lead the Museum’s board of directors and I have a warm place in my heart for the IMS Museum. From the time it was located outside of Turn 1 to its present location, the spark for my passion for Indy car racing was ignited there.”
Jones has restored 11 Indy cars to date. As a driver, Jones started racing go-karts at age 10 and earned his professional racing license at age 15 and continues to actively race vintage Indy cars. He has won multiple championships in a variety of racing series.
