Conti to head up Maserati competition division

Maserati’s competition division, Maserati Corse, will have new leadership from Oct. 1, with Maria Conti replacing Giovanni Sgro.

Over the last two years, Sgro has overseen Maserati’s entry into Formula E, as well as its return to sports car racing with the MC20 GT2 and the track-only MCXtrema halo car.

“I would like to thank Giovanni for the passion with which he has supported Maserati’s return to the track and for helping to make Maserati Corse a reality,” said Maserati CEO Davide Grasso. “We have begun to write an important new chapter in the 110-year history of our brand, which has returned to where it began, having racked up victories, satisfaction and major results on circuits all over the world.

“I wish Giovanni the best for his upcoming professional challenges, where he will be taking a leading role.”

Conti has over 20 years’ experience in communication in the automotive and lifestyle sectors, and was previously Maserati’s chief communication officer. She returns to the company after a period of maternity leave and will report directly to Grasso, and operationally to Jean-Marc Finot, senior VP, of Stellantis Motorsport.

“Maria is a member of the Maserati family,” said Grasso. “I am particularly proud that a woman will now be leading our brand’s activities on the track and bringing her expertise, energy, and enthusiasm to motor racing.”

In its two seasons competing in Formula E so far, Maserati has scored two wins – in Jakarta in 2023 and Tokyo earlier this year – as well as a further four podium finishes, all courtesy of Maximilian Guenther.

Guenther will move to sister Stellantis brand DS and the DS Penske team for the upcoming season. Jehan Daruvala has also departed the team after a single season, with Maserati fielding an all-New lineup of Jake Hughes and former DS Penske driver Stoffel Vandoorne for the 2024-25 campaign.
