FIA awards Three-Star Environmental Accreditation to Spa Grand Prix

Prior to the 2023 FIA Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix last weekend, Spa Grand Prix revealed that it had been awarded the Three-Star Environmental Accreditation by the FIA.

After achieving ISO 20121 certification in 2021, this recent certification showcases Spa Grand Prix’s commitment to actively reducing its environmental impact, while contributing to making motorsport more sustainable.

The certification is aligned with Formula 1’s environmental sustainability plan of reducing its carbon footprint and becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
Spa Grand Prix’s environmental policy includes the reduction of single-use items, and sorting and managing waste to reduce the event’s overall environmental impact.

“Obtaining the FIA’s highest environmental certification is the culmination of several months’ work by the whole team,” said Vanessa Maes, CEO, Spa Grand Prix. “It proves our commitment to these values, which we believe are essential to the development of our company. Our policy of continuous improvement is bearing fruit.”

“It is very important that the entire motor sport ecosystem is committed to environmental sustainability, and the FIA Three-Star Accreditation for such a historic racing venue is a great sign that our sport is moving forward in the right direction,” commented Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA.
“All stakeholders have a great responsibility to keep pushing and improving in our environmental practices – as organizers, competitors, venues and fans – and I congratulate Spa Grand Prix for their continued work toward a better future for us all.”
