Idemitsu develops API-certified plant-based racing engine oil

Japanese petroleum company Idemitsu Kosan has developed a new engine oil, Idemitsu IFG Plantech Racing (viscosity grade: 0W-20), which uses more than 80% plant-based raw materials.

This solution has achieved API SP certification, making it the first engine oil in the world to combine racing performance with API certification while using plant-based materials, according to Idemitsu.

API SP is the new minimum engine oil standard developed to address the critical needs of engines, including chain wear, low speed pre-ignition and deposit formation.

In addition to API SP certification, Idemsitsu IFG Plantech Racing has received Biomass Mark certification from the Japan Organics Recycling Association, confirming its substantial use of biological resources. The oil is part of Idemitsu’s IFG/IRG Series, a line-up primarily available in 13 countries where the company’s lubricant affiliates operate. The product is slated for release in November 2024, with further details to be disclosed in October.
