Increase in race duration for Dunlop Series

The combined Dunlop Super2 and Dunlop Super3 Series, one of the most exciting support categories of the Repco Supercars Championship, has announced a significant change in its race format that will come into effect from this month’s Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint.

The Supercars Commission has today approved the series' request to replace lap count with an allotted period for all races with no lap count.

The new race duration will be 40 minutes, up from the previous 30 minutes. The increase in race duration will commence at Round 2 and will continue at all Rounds except Bathurst, where the 100km duration will remain.

Motorsport Operations Manager Paul Martin said, "The decision to move away from lap count to an allotted time race is to assist the driving standards and provide maximum exposure to the Category and value for money for Teams.

“We believe this change will enable our drivers to focus more on racing and less on tactics, as well as provide an enhanced viewing experience for our fans."

"Following consultation with various Dunlop Series Teams, Broadcast Partners and Event Promoters, we are pleased to receive their support for the amendment.

“We believe this change will bring more excitement and unpredictability to the series, making it even more thrilling for everyone involved."

The Dunlop Series is known for producing some of the most talented drivers in the country, and this change is expected to further elevate the competition's profile.

Benalla’s Zak Best currently leads the Dunlop Super2 Series Championship standings. The Anderson Motorsport Ford Mustang driver sits 18 points ahead of rookie Cooper Murray and 48 points ahead of Greenvale (Victoria) ZB Commodore youngster Jay Hanson.

18-year-old Erebus Academy member Jobe Stewart leads the Dunlop Super3 Series standings after one round of racing in Newcastle.

The Perth round is the second of six for the combined Dunlop Super2 and Dunlop Super3 Series in 2023.
