Iperionx to manufacture recycled titanium components for Ford Peformance vehicles

Under a new scope of work (SoW), IperionX will supply titanium metal components to Ford, using 100% recycled and low-carbon titanium metal. The companies have been working together to design, test and additively manufacture titanium components for use in Ford Performance production vehicles.

The SoW was awarded following an extensive quality and strength testing program conducted by Ford’s Sustainability and Advanced Materials divisions to ensure IperionX’s low-carbon, circular titanium metal surpassed the required parameters set under ASTM International standards.

A finishing study will be conducted at a later date to decide which surface finish should be used on the titanium components. Insights learned from the SoW will be used to decide on a final design and the cost for the titanium components.

Titanium components benefit from enhanced strength-to-weight ratios, improved resistance to corrosion and added durability. Due to IperionX’s technologies and manufacturing process, the components can also be recycled at the end of their life.

“Our low-carbon titanium metal is uniquely made with 100% recycled titanium and can significantly improve automotive supply chains by using high-strength titanium components with nearly half the weight of steel,” said Anastasios Arima, CEO, IperionX.
