K1 RaceGear Advances Motorsports Safety with Focus on Education and Innovation

Leading motorsports apparel company emphasizes the importance of proper safety gear and education in racing environments.

K1 RaceGear, a pioneering company in motorsports safety apparel, is making strides in enhancing the safety of track workers, drivers, and racing teams worldwide. In a recent webinar, JR Twedt, Director of Operations at K1 RaceGear & Freem, emphasized the need for increased education and proper use of safety gear across all levels of racing.

"At K1, safety isn't just about equipping drivers with the right gear—it's about ensuring that every individual involved in motorsports is properly protected and educated," said Twedt. "We are focusing on educating the industry, from track safety workers to racing teams, about the importance of proper protection and care for their safety equipment."

The webinar highlighted K1 RaceGear's commitment to developing high-quality, technical gear tailored to the unique needs of different motorsports environments. Twedt pointed out that while many racing professionals are familiar with the brand, there is still a significant knowledge gap in understanding how safety gear works, especially in heat transfer and the risks posed by improper maintenance.

One of the key issues discussed was the importance of layering and construction in racing suits. Twedt explained that many track workers use fire-resistant (FR) cotton suits, which, although meeting industry standards, may not offer the same level of protection as Nomex multi-layer suits. He emphasized that education around the proper use and maintenance of these suits is critical to preventing injuries from indirect heat exposure, which is a major concern in motorsports.

K1 RaceGear has also developed several programs aimed at improving safety standards at racetracks, from large facilities to local Saturday night events. The company encourages track owners and promoters to invest in higher-quality protective gear and offers guidance on creating safety programs tailored to their needs.

"Safety is not just about complying with standards—it's about understanding the risks and ensuring that everyone on the track, from the drivers to the safety crews, is adequately protected," Twedt added.

K1 RaceGear's ongoing efforts to educate the industry have already made a significant impact. The company collaborates with organizations globally, providing training and resources to ensure that safety remains a top priority in motorsports.
