PREMA's IndyCar team officially launches

PREMA Racing has launched its new NTT IndyCar Series team in a grand presentation of its cars and personnel from GM’s Charlotte Technical Center in North Carolina.

The Italian team, which has established a base in Indiana, utilized GM’s facility to showcase the Chevrolet-powered Nos. 83 and 90, along with drivers Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman, reserve driver Romain Grosjean, and its team leadership.

As expected, the team founded by Angelo Rosin and led by his son Rene Rosin and partner Angelina Ertsou, confirmed Deborah Mayer, the person behind the Iron Dames sports car program, as co-team owner of the IndyCar initiative.

Other key members include technical director and longstanding PREMA team manager Guillaume Capietto, operations manager Graham Quinn, head of engineering Michael Cannon and technical coordinator Alessandro Vantini.

They’re joined by ex-Haas F1 aerodynamicist Joao Ginete who will serve as Shwartzman’s race engineer on the No. 83, ex-Juncos Hollinger Racing engineer Steve Barker who worked with Ilott at JHR and will resume activities as his race engineer with the No. 90, plus R&D engineer Robert Gue from Arrow McLaren, aerodynamic leader John McGill, and sporting advisor and eight-time IndyCar race winner Ryan Briscoe. As with both of the team’s drivers Briscoe is a PREMA alumni, having spent four years with the organization as he rose through the junior ranks in Europe.

“While we are proud to have joined a new world for us in IndyCar, we are delighted to have shared our vision with many new people,” said Rene Rosin. “Our history and heritage have defined what we are today and still define the goals we are looking to achieve.”
