RML Group unveils P39 based on the Porsche 911 Turbo S

UK-based high-performance engineering specialist RML Group has revealed production details of its bespoke P39 40th Special Edition (40SE). It is based on a Porsche 992.1 Turbo S and stated to be faster than a 992 GT3RS around the Nürburgring.

Michael Mallock, CEO of RML Group, said, “What better way to showcase our leadership on road and track over 40 years than with the launch of a Le Mans Hypercar-inspired hypercar?”

P39 40SE’s track has been increased, both front and rear, and the wheelbase has been lengthened. The bodywork has been replaced by a carbon fiber shell inspired functionally and aesthetically by the new Le Mans Hypercar category, which features front and rear active aero, complete with an integrated, driver-activated drag reduction system (DRS). Additionally, the entire chassis can be remotely lowered to increase downforce via hydraulic actuators.

The result is a downforce of 662kg – more than 4.5 times a standard 992.1 911 Turbo S at 150mph. The powertrain is a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that develops 900bhp at 7,300rpm and 1,000Nm of torque thanks to a new ECU, upgraded turbos and intercoolers, new manifolds, catalytic converters plus a tuned Inconel sports exhaust.

RML says that according to its advanced simulation software, a projected lap time of 6 min 45 sec is possible,. For reference, a standard 992.1 Turbo S takes 7 min 17 sec while the GT3 Rs can accomplish the same in 6 min 49 sec.

P39 40SE has two distinct modes or characters. When the car is in Tour Mode, the ride height increases, and the damping relaxes to make the car more compliant. Inside, it features new sports seats and embroidery matched with four-point safety harnesses for both driver and passenger. The standard rear seat is removed and replaced with a custom half roll cage.

Just 10 examples of P39 40SE will be built at RML’s engineering center at Wellingborough, near Silverstone, with the first build already in progress. The P39 40SE will cost £495,000 (US$645,000) excluding taxes plus the donor car, which RML can source.
