Scott Bloomquist Dies In Plane Crash

A plane crash claimed the life of nationally touring Dirt Super Late Model race car driver Scott Bloomquist near his east Tennessee home early Friday morning, according to reports.

Authorities confirmed Bloomquist died in the crash to the Rogersville Review.

A Facebook post from the Hawkins County, Tennessee Rescue Squad says the accident happened on Brooks Road off of Highway 31 in Mooresburg in the early morning hours.

The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office later said the plane, a single-engine Piper J3, crashed into a barn, and had only one occupant. Their release says

The sheriff's office says both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the crash.

Bloomquist, who was 60 when he died, was considered by many the greatest dirt super late model driver of all time, winning dozens of championships throughout his career, which started in the early 1980s.
