Supercars outlines changes to Gen3 chassis
Following the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship’s opening two races, several changes have been made to the Gen3 chassis, in addition to center of gravity (CoG) testing being conducted.
Several cars were selected to undergo CoG testing after the Beaurepaires Melbourne SuperSprint race, with vehicles from both manufacturer’s subjected to measurements on a specially designed rig at Tickford Racing’s Campbellfield base in Victoria, Australia. The results between the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro models were said to have been close.
“Work continues, preliminary results show the two cars are very close,” explained a Supercars spokesperson. “A more in-depth analysis and study involving different car configurations is underway.”
Additionally, the Supercars Commission and Technical Working Group have signed off some changes to the Gen3 chassis after several cars were involved in accidents at the Albert Park race in Melbourne which resulted in them not taking part in certain sessions due to repairs being carried out.
“The Technical Working Group approved some modifications to the front and rear clips, and chassis, to improve the impacts of damage learned from the Albert Park findings,” said a Supercars spokesperson. “This is a process of continuous improvement similar to what the series went through the last time it introduced a new platform.”
The next race of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will take place at the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint circuit on April 28-30.
