United Autosports commits to ORECA for next-gen LMP2
United Autosports has chosen to extend its relationship in LMP2 competition with ORECA to 2032, becoming the first team to declare which chassis supplier it will partner with for the next generation ruleset starting in 2028.
UA decided to commit to the forthcoming ORECA 09 platform during this year's European Le Mans Series meeting at Paul Ricard, as it looks to cement its position in the marketplace through to the next decade.
After initially selecting Ligier's JS P217 for the current ruleset, which debuted in 2017, it switched to ORECA two years later. Since then, the team has achieved a number of standout results around the world with the current 07 chassis, including two Le Mans class wins and victories at the Rolex 24 and Sebring 12 Hours.
"It’s great to be extending our partnership with ORECA through to 2032 as we transition to the new 09 chassis”, says Richard Dean, United Autosports CEO and team principal. “Our longstanding relationship with the entire ORECA team is backed by a proven track record – two Le Mans victories, the Daytona 24 Hours last year and more recently our first IMSA one-two at the 12 Hours of Sebring, as well as many championship titles, just to name a few.
"This year marks the eighth consecutive year United Autosports have fielded the ORECA 07 LMP2 across multiple championships and I firmly believe the ORECA 07 to be one of, if not the most successful race car designs of recent history. We are excited to continue making unforgettable memories together with ORECA Motorsport and the next-generation LMP2 car.”
Hugues de Chaunac, ORECA group president, added: “I couldn’t be happier today as United Autosports renews its trust in ORECA with a clear ambition: to win, you need the best teams, the best drivers and the best car. I’m also delighted to see such a strong and clear future for the LMP2 category from 2028 onwards. By then, many ORECA chassis will certainly be on the grid, but United Autosports will have the privilege of running the very first one.”
United, which is currently gearing up for its FIA WEC Hypercar debut in 2027 with McLaren, will continue to campaign the ORECA 07 LMP2 until the end of the current regulation cycle in the Asian Le Mans Series, European Le Mans Series, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans, before switching to the new car.
The next-gen LMP2 cars will be supplied by ORECA and Ligier, and house a new twin-turbo V6 Gibson engine. When the new cars debut, they will be guaranteed spots on the grid in the ELMS, AsLMS and at Le Mans. It has not yet been confirmed whether the cars will debut in IMSA's WeatherTech Championship in year one.
