Vision 148 showcases one-off Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 build

Code-named Carbon Piranha, the reimagined Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 is intended to showcase cutting edge manufacturing and materials technology. The project is a collaboration between Vision148 and high-performance automotive specialists including Cosworth, ASM Auto Recycling, Yasid Design, and Digital Manufacturing Centre (DMC).

The one-off project will be based on a donor car (#148 of just 500) that will be dismantled, recycled and 3D scanned by ASM Auto Recycling, a vehicle dismantler and supplier of recycled car parts in the UK.

Styling will be handled by Yasid Design while the actual rebuild process will involve Digital Manufacturing Centre (DMC) at Silverstone. Cosworth will focus on the powertrain revision of the RS500. Vision 148 targets a total weight of under 1,000kg, which it hopes to achieve through the extensive use of carbon composites.

Ian Howe, founder of Vision 148, added, “Vision148 is all about collaboration with automotive and motorsport specialists in additive manufacturing and digital design and aligning with originator brands such as Cosworth who will bring this car to life.”

“The DMC was approached by Vision148 to provide engineering and additive manufacturing services and this will be a showcase for the bleeding edge technology we deploy for a number of high-profile brands and will be working with Ian and the team to deliver a very special car,” commented Kieron Salter, founder and CEO, Digital Manufacturing Centre, Silverstone, UK.

“Cosworth is celebrating over 65 years, and it all started with motorsport, which led us through Ford ownership, Cossies, and the aftermarket and we know that there is a passionate fanbase out there for the Cosworth brand, and what better way to celebrate a road and race icon than through the Vision148 RS500 project build and the Autovision Club as an official partner,” added Nick Greenway, global director, Cosworth.
