The EWP®160 is a high-performance brushless magnetic-drive Electric Water Pump engineered for high-performance street, motorsport, 4WD, marine, heavy-duty cooling and water-to-air intercooler applications. Delivering exceptional flow capability with advanced PWM control, it provides precise thermal management across a wide range of operating conditions.

The EWP®160 is engineered for serious cooling performance where flow under pressure matters. While the EWP®160 delivers an impressive 160 L/min open flow, the true measure of performance is its ability to maintain strong circulation under load:

56.5 L/min @ 1.5 Bar (15m Head)

This is where real-world cooling performance counts.

Under system resistance — through radiators, intercooler cores, heat exchangers, cylinder heads and plumbing — the EWP®160 continues to deliver a powerful and stable 56.5 litres per minute at 1.5 bar. That means consistent coolant movement when your engine or intercooler system is working hardest.

With advanced magnetic drive brushless motor technology, IP68 sealing and full PWM control compatibility, this pump provides precise, reliable cooling performance in the harshest environments.

Engineered for Long Life – Brushless Magnetic Drive Motor

At the heart of the EWP®160 is a magnetic drive brushless motor, specifically chosen for durability, efficiency and continuous-duty operation.

Unlike traditional brushed electric water pumps that rely on carbon brushes (which wear over time), the EWP®160’s brushless design eliminates brush contact — significantly reducing mechanical wear and extending operational lifespan.

Why Brushless Matters

✔ No carbon brushes to wear out
✔ Reduced internal friction
✔ Lower heat generation
✔ Improved electrical efficiency
✔ Greater reliability in continuous operation
✔ Designed for sustained high-load cooling systems

For intercooler pump and charge cooler applications, where the pump may run continuously during boost or extended track sessions, long-term durability is critical. The brushless motor ensures stable performance even in high-temperature engine bays and demanding motorsport environments.

Advanced Brushless Motor Technology

Unlike conventional brushed electric water pumps, the EWP®160 uses a magnetic drive brushless motor, delivering:

  • Longer service life
  • Reduced electrical noise
  • Greater efficiency
  • Improved reliability in continuous duty intercooler circuits
  • Stable flow in high-temperature engine bays
Full PWM control (100–1000 Hz) allows integration with modern ECUs and standalone controllers, enabling intelligent temperature-based flow management for both engine cooling and intercooler systems.

For optimum coolant management, Davies, Craig recommends the installation of Brushless Variable Speed Fan and EWP® Controller (Part #0550 or #0551).

Davies, Craig has a full range of Digital Thermatic® Fan Switches for when on/off control of the EWP® is desired (Part #0444, #0445, #0448, #0435, #0438 & #0500).
The Brushless EWP® can also be controlled using an aftermarket ECU

High Performance Cooling & Intercooler Flow

  • Open Flow Rate: 160 L/min (42.27 GPM)
  • Rated Flow: 56.5 L/min @ 1.5 bar (15m head)
  • Maximum Head Height: 18.1 m
  • Maximum Power: 350 W
  • Rated Current: 26 A (Max 29.1 A)
Whether you're running a high-boost turbo engine, LS conversion, endurance race car, off-road vehicle, marine setup, or a high-capacity water-to-air intercooler system, the EWP160 provides the flow and pressure capability required to maintain stable coolant and intake air temperatures under load.

For performance builds using charge Air coolers, this pump ensures rapid coolant circulation between the intercooler core and heat exchanger — helping reduce heat soak and maintain consistent intake air temperatures during repeated pulls, track sessions or sustained boost conditions.

EWP® INSTALLATION OPTIONS

Installing an EWP® as an AUXILIARY PUMP

  • Leaving the mechanical water pump in place, install the EWP® into the bottom radiator hose.
  • Remove the thermostat and drill two approx. 3mm (1/8") holes in the thermostat plate to allow some coolant circulation when the thermostat is closed. Re-install ensuring that the thermostat housing is clean and a new gasket is used if required.
EWP® INSTALLATION – disabling Mechanical water pump

  • Leaving the mechanical water pump in place, install the EWP® into the bottom radiator hose and remove the manufacturer’s thermostat.
  • You will need to bypass the water pump pulley by installing an appropriate length belt (not supplied). This method makes for an easy installation.
  • If running the pump continuously remove the thermostat and drill two approx. 3mm (1/8") holes in the thermostat plate to allow some coolant circulation. Re-install ensuring that the thermostat housing is clean and a new gasket is used if required.
In both these cases, the EWP® will pump past the impeller of the mechanical water pump.

Disengaged mechanical water pump (recommended)

  • Remove the mechanical water pump and remove the thermostat.
  • Then remove the impeller from the mechanical pump shaft. Retain the mechanical water pump using the pump pulley as an idler to avoid re-routing the drive belt.
  • Block any bypass passages and re-install the disengaged water pump ensuring that all gasket surfaces are clean and the new gaskets are properly fitted to prevent leaks.
  • Install the EWPÒ into the bottom radiator hose.
Removed mechanical water pump (Ideal)

  • Remove the mechanical water pump and thermostat from the engine.
  • Install a Davies Craig EWP® Block Adaptor or blanking plate (not supplied). Ensuring the gasket surfaces are clean and the appropriate gasket or sealant is used to prevent leaks.
  • Install the EWP® into the bottom radiator hose. This method will require you to modify or replace the standard radiator hose.
  • Install an appropriate length belt (not supplied) to drive the accessories.
