Chesterman joins USRA, USMTS staff

Officials from the United States Modified Touring Series and United States Racing Association welcomed Erick Chesterman to the staff of the Webster, City-Iowa Based racing organizations on Monday.

Chesterman, 34, was named the Director of Track Operations and will oversee communication between the dozens of successful racetracks operating under the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series banner. As part of that, you’ll find him at events featuring the American Racer USRA Modifieds Series presented by Day Motor Sports.

With the USMTS, Chesterman will be the lead announcer at events he attends, with multiple announcers filling in for the former voice of the 81 Speedway and Humboldt Speedway when he is unavailable.

“I cannot find the appropriate words to express how excited I am to join both the USRA and USMTS organizations, or how much I appreciate (President) Todd and (Vice-President) Janet (Staley) for the opportunity,” Chesterman said. “I grew up a sprint car fan, but have fallen in love with what USRA offers weekly racers and tracks along with the touring series action USMTS brings to each one of their events.”

Chesterman replaces Bryce Hall, who held both positions as well for the last few years. Hall is now the General Manager of the all-new Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, Oklahoma. The track will host the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series events on Friday nights and welcome the Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt this November.

“Bryce did a phenomenal job,” added Chesterman. “He’s a great friend of mine, and I’m determined to build upon the solid foundation he has built.

“Leaving 81, Humboldt and FOE Enterprises was definitely a tough decision to make. Not only have they been close personal friends, but John Allen, J.R. Sartain and Kati Sartain all gave me opportunities I most likely would not have gotten anywhere else. They trusted me to do what was best for both racetracks and help make their programs better. They gave me the ability to learn and grow in each one of those capacities, and without them I would not be in the position to join USRA and USMTS today.”

Chesterman will begin his role immediately, and fans can hear him on the microphone when the USMTS launches its 25th Anniversary season on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 2-4, at the Rocket Raceway Park in Petty, Texas. The ARMS open the year in the Sooner State at the Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker on Friday, April 14, and the Lawton Speedway on Saturday, April 15.

“I can’t wait to be a part of the best weekly sanctioning body in dirt racing, and the best Modified touring series in the country, Chesterman declared.

Continuing to crush it: Year after year, the USRA continues to attract more racetracks and dirt track racers through fair, logical and cost-effective rules accompanied by an organization that puts the racers, racetracks and their fans first. In the 2022 Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series, more than 50 of America’s finest dirt ovals host over 1,000 nights of racing.
