Extreme H announces Qiddiya City location, event date
The inaugural FIA Extreme H World Cup will take place in Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia on October 9-11, it was announced today.
The area, dubbed 'the world's first city built entirely for play' is situated around 30 miles away from capital city Riyadh, amid the Tuwaiq Mountains. Extreme H's event will take place on purpose-built courses close to the new Speed Park Track – which is set to host the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2027 – currently under construction, and will be one of several motorsport events hosted by the area in the coming years.
“Qiddiya City is envisioned not just as a destination for play, but as an example of contemporary, sustainable urban planning and design,” said Abdullah AlDawood, managing director of Qiddiya Investment Company. “Hosting the inaugural FIA Extreme H World Cup underscores our commitment to showcasing sustainable motorsport while positioning Saudi Arabia as a global hub for future-focused experiences.
“We look forward to welcoming the world to witness this next chapter in racing.”
Saudi Arabia also hosted the inaugural Extreme E event back in 2021, and was the season opener for that series every year it ran. Al-'Ula hosted that first race event with Tabuk the location for Season 2. In Season 3, it moved to the Red Sea coast near the upcoming NEOM project, while last year's races were hosted north of Jeddah.
“Qiddiya City is the ideal launchpad for the FIA Extreme H World Cup, a new frontier for motorsport that embodies purpose, innovation and entertainment,” said Extreme E and Extreme H founder Alejandro Agag. “More than just a race venue, it’s a statement of intent. A visually stunning, technologically ambitious location that sets the tone for a new era of motorsport. We are proud to showcase the power of hydrogen and sustainable technology.”
The FIA Extreme H World Cup will be preceded by a final weekend of Extreme E racing on October 4-5, before the battery-electric series is set aside for the new hydrogen contest, which will be the first ever hydrogen-only motorsport event.
“Extreme H’s first event will also host the final Extreme E race,” explained Agag. “Designed to provide a fitting conclusion for Extreme E, celebrating everything it achieved, where it all first started, before we officially make the transition to the new era of hydrogen with Extreme H.
“Our full story, double the racing action.”
Final confirmation of dates and a location for the first FIA Extreme H World Cup comes a day after news broke that it and the FIA has signed a multi-year agreement, securing the competition’s future and backing from the world motorsport governing body for the coming years.
Eight teams will compete, all using the purpose-built Pioneer 25 off-road vehicle, developed by Spark in France with two drivers, one male, one female, on each team.
