NASCAR President Steve Phelps Highlights Exciting Changes, Achievements, and Vision at EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week

NASCAR President Steve Phelps joined EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week to reflect on the successes of the 2024 season and provide a glimpse into the future of NASCAR. From record-breaking competition on the track to innovative partnerships and groundbreaking events, Phelps emphasized NASCAR’s commitment to evolving the sport and delivering unparalleled experiences for fans worldwide.

2024: A Year of Unmatched Racing and Growth

Reflecting on the past season, Phelps celebrated what he called “arguably the best racing in NASCAR history.” The 2024 season featured three of the closest finishes in the sport's history, an unprecedented level of parity among teams, and 18 different race winners across 10 organizations.

“This was an extraordinary year for NASCAR,” Phelps said. “The competition has never been better, and almost any team can win on any given Sunday. That’s the hallmark of a sport that is truly competitive.”

Fan Engagement and Growth in Attendance

Phelps noted the resurgence of fan engagement, with multiple sellout events in 2024 and growing enthusiasm among fans. NASCAR has invested heavily in enhancing the race-day experience, including a $50 million infrastructure upgrade to improve connectivity at racetracks.

“We’re committed to making race day unforgettable,” Phelps explained. “From improving fan access to high-speed internet for social sharing to creating immersive experiences, we’re ensuring that NASCAR remains competitive not just on the track but in the hearts of our fans.”

2025: New Tracks, Media Rights, and Expanding Horizons

Looking ahead, NASCAR’s 2025 season will usher in bold changes. Two highly anticipated events will debut: the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium in North Carolina and a historic Cup Series race in Mexico City.

“These events are a nod to our rich history while pushing the boundaries of what NASCAR can achieve,” Phelps said. “Bowman Gray reflects our roots, and Mexico City is an important step in expanding our international footprint.”

Additionally, the 2025 season marks the launch of a groundbreaking media rights deal. With partners like Fox, NBC, Amazon, and Warner Bros. Discovery, NASCAR is blending traditional broadcast with streaming platforms to reach a broader and more diverse audience. Phelps expressed excitement about these partnerships, emphasizing their role in promoting the sport to new demographics.

“We’re meeting fans where they are,” Phelps stated. “From broadcast television to streaming platforms like Amazon and Max, our goal is to engage existing fans and introduce NASCAR to new audiences worldwide.”

Next-Gen Innovation and Future Opportunities

Phelps discussed the ongoing evolution of NASCAR’s NextGen car, now in its third year. Improvements to aerodynamics, tires, and short-track performance have elevated competition. He hinted at future enhancements for the Xfinity and Truck Series and expressed optimism about attracting new original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to the sport.

“We’re constantly collaborating with our OEM partners, race teams, and Goodyear to fine-tune the racing experience,” Phelps said. “Additionally, we’re actively pursuing new OEMs to join NASCAR, which will strengthen the series even further.”

A Vision for Long-Term Growth

NASCAR’s leadership is committed to long-term planning, with an emphasis on schedule variation, innovative race formats, and reaching new markets. Phelps highlighted the importance of balancing tradition with growth, noting that initiatives like the Chicago Street Race and the return to North Wilkesboro have successfully engaged both core fans and newcomers.

“Growth and innovation are at the heart of everything we do,” Phelps said. “We’re not afraid to take risks and invest in the future of the sport, even when it’s challenging.”

The Road Ahead

As the 2025 season approaches, NASCAR fans have much to look forward to, including the kickoff at Bowman Gray Stadium on February 2 and the historic Mexico City race later in the year. Phelps concluded by expressing his gratitude to NASCAR’s partners, teams, and fans for their role in the sport’s continued success.

“We’re entering an exciting era for NASCAR,” Phelps said. “With record-breaking competition, groundbreaking partnerships, and an unwavering commitment to our fans, the best is yet to come.”
