Formula E Drives Sustainability, Innovation, and Inclusion: Insights from Beth Paretta
Beth Paretta, Vice President of Sporting for Formula E, shared powerful insights into the electric racing series’ core values and future plans during her presentation at EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week. Highlighting Formula E’s continued leadership in sustainability, innovation, and inclusion, Paretta outlined how the championship is driving change both on and off the racetrack.
Sustainability as a Core Value
For the third consecutive year, Formula E has topped the global sustainability benchmark in sports ratings, a reflection of its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint across every aspect of the championship. Paretta emphasized the meticulous planning behind Formula E’s logistics and operations.
“Everything we do is rooted in sustainability—it’s not just part of our core values, it is our core value,” Paretta stated. “From utilizing public transportation to reducing cargo emissions with smarter regional planning, we’re leading the way in reshaping how global championships operate sustainably.”
Innovation at the Heart of Progress
As Formula E enters its 11th season, the championship continues to push the boundaries of electric racing technology. Paretta introduced the Gen 3 EVO race car, a high-performance, all-wheel-drive vehicle capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.8 seconds—30% faster than a Formula 1 car.
The Gen 3 EVO also features a softer Hankook tire compound to enhance grip, delivering a new layer of strategy and excitement for drivers and fans. The series is already looking ahead to its Gen 4 car, set to debut in season 13, with further advancements in efficiency and accessibility.
“Our rapid technological evolution showcases Formula E as a testbed for innovation,” Paretta noted. “The lessons learned here shape the future of electric mobility, directly influencing road car development by our OEM partners.”
Inclusion and Opportunities for Women
Paretta also highlighted Formula E’s commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion within the championship. A key milestone this year was the all-women’s test at Spain’s Jarama Circuit, which saw 18 female drivers, including champions like Jamie Chadwick and Tatiana Calderón, piloting current Formula E cars.
“This initiative is about more than a one-time event,” Paretta emphasized. “We’re building pathways for women in racing—on and off the track—to foster long-term growth and representation across the industry.”
Paretta also addressed misconceptions about women’s capabilities in motorsport, citing feedback from the test that confirmed Formula E cars are accessible to drivers of all sizes and genders.
Expanding the Global Reach
Formula E continues to grow its footprint with innovative race formats and expanded venues. The 2024–2025 season introduces a doubleheader in Monaco for the first time and a new U.S. race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
“The U.S. market is critical for us,” Paretta stated. “As we continue to expand, our focus is on creating lasting connections with fans and communities while showcasing the incredible potential of electric racing.”
Formula E’s Mission for a Sustainable Future
As Formula E evolves, its mission remains steadfast: to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and sustainable practices while delivering world-class racing entertainment.
“Formula E is proof that sustainability and innovation can coexist,” Paretta concluded. “Our championship is paving the way for a cleaner, more inclusive future—not just in motorsport, but in mobility worldwide.”
