Guenther Steiner Shares Insights on Formula 1, Innovation, and His Expanding Ventures

Guenther Steiner, one of Formula 1's most iconic team principals and former head of Haas F1 Team, captivated the audience during an exclusive interview at EPARTRADE's 5th Annual Race Industry Week. Steiner discussed his dynamic post-Haas career, the evolution of motorsport, and his ambitious plans for the future.

Post-Haas Ventures: Expanding Horizons

Since leaving Haas F1 Team, Steiner has embraced a variety of roles, including ambassador for the Miami GP and Buffalo Trace, television commentator for multiple networks, and author of two books. Reflecting on his unexpected trajectory, he shared, “I wanted to take time off, but new opportunities kept coming. It’s been exciting and diverse.”

Steiner highlighted the global reach of his growing responsibilities, including promotional work for Formula 1 events and the expansion of his composites business, which has grown to a 120,000-square-foot facility employing 250 people. “It’s fulfilling to see how motorsport innovation translates into broader industries, from defense to manufacturing,” Steiner noted.

Reflections on Formula 1 and Drive to Survive

As a prominent figure in Netflix’s Drive to Survive, Steiner acknowledged the series’ role in Formula 1’s global popularity. “Nobody anticipated how transformative it would be for the sport,” he said. “The show brought in new demographics and expanded Formula 1’s audience, especially during the COVID-19 era.”

He also praised Formula 1's push for innovation, citing the successful implementation of sprint races. “Sprint weekends have revitalized the sport, creating action-packed schedules that keep fans engaged,” Steiner explained, advocating for expanding sprints to 12 events per season.

The Future of Formula 1 and Motorsports Innovation

Steiner discussed the growing professionalism in motorsports, noting how Formula 1 continues to push technological boundaries. He highlighted the impact of F1 innovations on other industries, stating, “Materials and technologies developed for F1 are being adapted for broader applications, including aerospace and automotive manufacturing.”

On Formula 1’s expansion, Steiner expressed measured optimism. “While saturation is a concern, the diversity of events—from night races to street circuits—keeps it fresh. Balancing logistics and human resources will be key as the sport evolves.”

Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond

Steiner remains committed to shaping the future of motorsport. Upcoming plans include television commentary, ambassadorial roles, and a global book tour for his latest release, Unfiltered. He also hinted at a continued presence in motorsport innovation, leveraging his expertise to consult on projects that align with his passion for the industry.

“I’ve transitioned from running a team to influencing the sport in new ways,” Steiner concluded. “It’s a privilege to be part of motorsport’s evolution and share its story with a global audience.”
