Levi Jones Discusses His Vision for Eldora Speedway at EPARTRADE's 5th Annual Race Industry Week
Levi Jones, the General Manager of Eldora Speedway, joined EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week to share insights into his leadership at one of the most iconic dirt tracks in the world. A former champion open-wheel racer and accomplished motorsports official, Jones reflected on his journey from USAC champion to promoter, his deep connection to Eldora, and his vision for the Speedway’s future.
A Lifelong Connection to Eldora
For Jones, Eldora has always held a special place in his racing career and personal history. “Growing up as a Sprint car driver, Eldora was always the ultimate goal,” he said. “In my first interview with National Speedsport News, I was asked where I’d want to win if I could choose one track, and my answer was Eldora Speedway.”
After years of competing and winning on its legendary clay, Jones transitioned into leadership roles within USAC and IndyCar before being tapped by Tony Stewart, owner of Eldora, to lead the Speedway in late 2023. “The decision to come here was easy,” Jones shared. “Tony has always been supportive of my career, and Eldora embodies everything I love about dirt racing.”
Balancing Tradition and Innovation
Jones emphasized the importance of preserving Eldora’s legacy while continuously enhancing the fan and racer experience. “Eldora is already regarded as the greatest dirt track in the world. My role is to maintain that trajectory,” he explained. “I don’t need to put my stamp on it—Earl Baltus, Tony, and countless others have built something extraordinary here.”
Jones is committed to ensuring that Eldora remains a destination for fans and racers alike. “We’re competing for people’s time and dollars,” he said. “Whether it’s choosing Eldora over a lake weekend or a round of golf, we aim to make the Speedway the ultimate experience.”
Managing a Racing Icon
With events like the King’s Royal and the World 100, Eldora hosts some of the most prestigious dirt track races in the world. These weekends bring logistical challenges, from managing thousands of campers to accommodating over 25,000 fans and 100 race cars.
“Preparation is key,” said Jones. “We divide responsibilities across camping, track operations, and concessions to ensure everything runs smoothly. You can’t control the weather or some variables, but we focus on delivering the best possible experience.”
The Unique Eldora Experience
Jones noted the unmatched passion of Eldora fans. “The Eldora logo is recognized everywhere—from the beach to the mountains,” he said. “It’s a Field of Dreams moment when you approach Eldora. Surrounded by farms, you descend into this incredible facility that takes your breath away.”
He also highlighted the emotions tied to first-time victories at the Speedway. “Seeing someone win at Eldora for the first time is magical. As someone who’s experienced it, I know what that moment feels like, and it’s something I look forward to witnessing every race season.”
Plans for 2025 and Beyond
Looking ahead, Jones shared his focus on upgrades to both the track and fan facilities, including enhancements to the newly completed Eldora Ballroom. This multipurpose venue has already booked over 25 non-racing events for 2025, adding to Eldora’s versatility as a community hub.
On the racing side, Jones hinted at an exciting schedule announcement ahead of the PRI Show. “All the major events are returning, but we’ve got something special lined up,” he teased.
A Passion for Racing
Jones’ transition from racer to promoter has been seamless, thanks to his deep-rooted love for the sport. “I was a fan first and foremost, and I’ll always be a fan,” he said. “My driving career fulfilled all my dreams, and now I get to channel that passion into making Eldora the best it can be.”
