NHRA’s Vision for the Future: Insights from Brad Gerber at EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week
Brad Gerber, Vice President of Sales and Chief Development Officer of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), shared groundbreaking insights and updates about the association’s achievements and future initiatives during EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week. Gerber’s discussion covered the NHRA’s innovative strategies to strengthen partnerships, enhance fan engagement, and prepare for a bright future in motorsports.
2024: A Year of Growth and Success
Reflecting on the past season, Gerber highlighted the NHRA's diverse successes, including the introduction of the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, the continuation of Camping World as a major partner, and the expansion of programs that directly benefit racing teams.
“Since 2019, we’ve increased payouts to teams by $3 million, and we’re constantly creating programs like the Mission Foods ‘2 Fast 2 Tasty’ initiative that put money back into their pockets,” said Gerber.
This season’s champions showcased the NHRA's diversity and depth, with Antron Brown securing his fourth championship as a team owner, and young superstar Austin Prock breaking records with a jaw-dropping 341 mph run. “These drivers embody the spirit and innovation of NHRA,” Gerber noted.
Innovative Partnerships and Fan Engagement
Gerber emphasized the value of strategic partnerships in growing NHRA’s brand and reach. Partners like In-N-Out Burger, which has driven record attendance at the renamed In-N-Out Pomona Dragstrip, have proven the importance of cultural alignment.
“In-N-Out has been an incredible partner,” Gerber said. “Their dedication to quality and customer experience mirrors our own values. They’re the only venue sponsor where fans can get In-N-Out Burgers outside of their restaurants, and they’ve made a lasting impact on our events.”
Pioneering New Frontiers: Betting and Digital Engagement
This year marked NHRA’s entrance into the legalized betting space with the launch of Play NHRA, allowing fans to legally wager on races through platforms like DraftKings and FanDuel.
“Betting has been part of motorsports culture for decades, but now we’ve formalized it to protect and grow the sport,” Gerber explained. “It’s already engaging a new generation of fans, with over 20,000 bets placed on NHRA events in just a few months.”
Exciting Plans for 2025 and Beyond
Looking ahead, Gerber unveiled key initiatives for 2025, including:
- Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park (LIRP): A new state-of-the-art tower will debut at the iconic venue, offering suites, race control, and spectator areas to enhance the fan experience.
- 75th Anniversary Celebration: The NHRA will begin a two-year celebration in 2025, honoring its legacy with special events and initiatives culminating in 2026.
- Cornwell Tools Partnership: The toolmaker will sponsor the prestigious U.S. Nationals, underscoring the race’s stature as the pinnacle of NHRA competition.
- VP Racing Fuels: Announced as the official racing fuel provider, bringing a renewed focus on performance and sustainability.
Gerber expressed enthusiasm about the NHRA's trajectory, citing its focus on innovation and fan-first experiences. “We’re celebrating our history while driving toward an exciting future. From facility upgrades to partnerships and fan engagement, 2025 is shaping up to be an incredible year.”
A Call to Action for New Partners
Gerber ended with an invitation for potential partners to join the NHRA family. “Whether it’s title sponsorships, track partnerships, or creative campaigns, we work tirelessly to craft stories that resonate with sponsors and fans alike. NHRA drag racing is a unique platform that delivers unmatched value.”
