Tony Parella Highlights SVRA’s National Growth and Vision at EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week

During his engaging appearance at EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week, Tony Parella, President of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) and founder of Parella Motorsports Holdings (PMH), reflected on the dramatic evolution of SVRA over the last 12 years and shared ambitious plans for the organization’s future.

From its modest beginnings with three races to a robust national schedule of 24 events in 2025, Parella credited the enduring appeal of grassroots racing, the support of a growing racer community, and a renewed focus on delivering exceptional fan experiences.

SVRA: From Regional Roots to National Force

Parella recalled SVRA’s humble origins at Watkins Glen, Sebring, and Mid-Ohio and contrasted it with the current scope:

“We’re now hosting 24 events across the country, demonstrating the strength and passion for grassroots racing,” Parella said. “This growth reflects our commitment to honoring vintage racing’s rich history while evolving to meet modern demands.”

SVRA’s evolution has included balancing its role as a platform for both serious competition and community-driven events. This dual focus has allowed SVRA to expand its reach without losing its heritage, Parella explained.

Expanding the Fan Experience

SVRA is making strides toward becoming a more spectator-centric series. A notable 2024 innovation was the introduction of the SpeedTour Fan Engagement Trailer, which features racing simulators, prize opportunities, and live-streamed event broadcasts on a massive 53-foot screen.

“This initiative connects fans to the on-track action like never before,” Parella said. “We’re not just hosting races; we’re creating immersive, family-friendly experiences.”

SVRA events are now live-streamed for free, ensuring accessibility and growing the sport’s audience. This strategy has already achieved significant traction, with Parella reporting 45-50 million social media impressions in 2024 and a remarkable engagement rate of 6-7%.

Broadening Appeal Through Youth Programs and Diversity

Parella emphasized SVRA’s commitment to bringing younger generations into motorsport through partnerships with organizations like Racing Prodigy and Radford Racing School, as well as scholarship programs targeting diverse and underrepresented communities.

“Our goal is to introduce the next generation to motorsport, whether through simulators, karting, or professional development programs,” Parella said.

A Growing Calendar with Iconic Tracks

The 2025 schedule introduces Barber Motorsports Park, a world-class venue noted for its scenic beauty and motorsport museum, alongside legendary tracks like Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“Each venue offers its own unique culture, and we’re excited to elevate the racing experience for drivers and fans alike,” Parella said.

He also noted SVRA’s strategic collaboration with nonprofit racing organizations, which allows participants to experience premier tracks while maintaining accessibility.

Meeting Challenges with Innovation

SVRA faces unique challenges in balancing the inclusivity of its 12 race groups, accommodating both purists with meticulously restored cars and racers seeking to push their vehicles.

“Brakes, weight, displacement, and tires are the keys to competitive and safe vintage racing,” Parella explained. “Our tech team works tirelessly to ensure fairness and preserve the spirit of the sport.”

SVRA’s introduction of gold medallion classes allows purist racers to showcase authentic, unmodified cars without compromising competition.

Driving the Future of Vintage Racing

Looking ahead, Parella emphasized the importance of adapting to changing demographics and automotive trends, ensuring vintage racing remains relevant and inclusive:

“We’re evolving with the sport, integrating modern prototypes and purpose-built vehicles like TA2 Club cars while maintaining our vintage roots,” Parella said.

Despite the logistical demands of a February-to-November schedule, Parella’s enthusiasm for vintage racing remains undiminished: “We’re caretakers of this incredible legacy. It’s our job to honor the past while building a vibrant future.”
