Tony Stewart Reflects on Racing, Family, and a Thrilling Year at EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week

Motorsports legend Tony Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and owner of Tony Stewart Racing (TSR), joined EPARTRADE’s 5th Annual Race Industry Week to discuss an eventful year marked by milestones on and off the track. From becoming a new father to earning accolades in NHRA drag racing, Stewart shared his insights on balancing family, career, and his passion for motorsports.

A Personal Milestone: Welcoming Fatherhood

Tony Stewart and his wife, Leah Pruett, celebrated the arrival of their son, Dominic James, just weeks ago. Stewart reflected on the profound experience of fatherhood, which has brought new meaning to his life.

“At 53, I wasn’t sure when the right time to become a father would be, but I can confidently say now is the perfect time for me,” Stewart shared. “Dominic will grow up at the track with us, surrounded by a racing family, which is a gift I’m incredibly grateful for.”

Stewart acknowledged the challenges of balancing parenting with his racing career but emphasized that this phase of life aligns perfectly with his priorities.

Rookie of the Year and Regional Championship in NHRA

2024 was a breakout year for Stewart in NHRA drag racing. He earned the NHRA Top Fuel Rookie of the Year title and clinched the Lucas Oil Central Region Top Alcohol Dragster Championship, showcasing his adaptability and dedication to a new motorsport discipline.

“This season was about proving that I could compete at the highest level of drag racing,” Stewart explained. “I didn’t want to look like a first-timer on the track. Winning Rookie of the Year and a regional championship made all the hard work worthwhile.”

Despite tough competition, including racing against legends like Justin Ashley and Antron Brown, Stewart demonstrated resilience and a fierce determination to succeed.

A Return to Top Fuel Racing in 2025

Stewart revealed exclusive news about his 2025 plans during the interview: he will return to the Top Fuel category next season as Leah Pruett steps back to focus on being a mom.

“I’m thrilled to continue competing in Top Fuel,” Stewart said. “Leah is a powerhouse, and while she could easily jump back in soon, this season is about her being an amazing mom and me getting another shot in the car.”

Promoting Drag Racing and Building a Legacy

Stewart has become a passionate advocate for NHRA drag racing, working to elevate the sport’s visibility through media appearances on platforms like Pat McAfee’s and Dan Le Batard’s shows.

“Drag racing offers an unparalleled fan experience,” Stewart remarked. “The accessibility, the raw power, and the community are unmatched. If you’ve never been to a drag race, you have to see it in person to understand its magic.”

Looking ahead, Stewart highlighted the importance of sustainable growth for NHRA, noting upcoming TV contract negotiations and the need for financial stability across teams.

A Year of Triumphs and Gratitude

As Stewart reflects on 2024, he cites the birth of his son as his greatest accomplishment, surpassing even his racing achievements.

“Winning Rookie of the Year and a regional championship were fantastic, but becoming a dad was the biggest win of my life,” Stewart said. “It’s been an unforgettable year, and I’m excited about what’s to come.”
